1. Side View Mirror Not Tilting Back to Original Position after Tilting Down When in Reverse. This is a very tricky yet annoying issue that affects several BMW models. Several owners have complaints that their side-view mirrors fail to re-adjust in normal position after tilting down when the gear is put into reverse.

If its an auto, highly recommend an oil service at ZF before 100k km. Door lock actuators - depends on usage but around 10 years for driver side. Oil consuption can be a problem.

Oct 23, 2013. #20. My old E90 320d '06 was 145 000km before she died. And never had a turbo problem, she was stock. The only problem I can remember having with this car is the door actuators broke once. Which is a very common problem. And my radios screen started dyeing intermittently (sometimes it would be fine).
316i (2014) Bought new, Owned for 1 Year. Fuel Economy: 10.9 km/litre (9.2 L/100 km), RON95, Mileage: 1,000 km/month. Although the 316i only has a 1.6l turbo engine, it doesn't feel slow at all and the handling prowess of a BMW is evident in this model even at high speeds or twisty corners.

However, both the diesel engine (engine code N47) has one part that can, unfortunately, cause problems: the timing chain. This can stretch (with grinding, scraping noises in the engine), skip or tear (with serious engine damage as a result). The successor to these engines, the B47 (from 2014/2015 the successor to the N47, suffers from this evil.
Connect the (+) lead of an Amp meter to this ground wire and the (-) lead of the Amp meter to the battery terminal so that the meter is in series. Whatever the car is draining, you will see it in the meter. Most meters will handle up to 10 Amps for current detection and is fused to ensure it stops dead shorts.
The F30 BMW 328d uses the same N47D20 as the Euro spec 320d which, in the UK, is one of the best selling lease vehicles. It's pretty nippy and the turbo lag of E90 version has been fixed with the help of the new ZF 8 Speed Auto. It isn't without problems, though.
3. BMW 520d 2.0 Diesel Engine. The BMW 520d came with a 2.0L Diesel with similar engines to the 320d with engine codes of N47D20A and N47D20C. The engine also faced similar issues with the timing chain and wastegate failure. Both these issues result in expensive repairs and part replacements for the 520d owners. 4.
